Meet Dr Ricky Shao

Ricky was born in a mega-city in China where he spent his childhood and most of his teenage years in a highly competitive schooling environment. He graduated with distinction from the most prestigious school in the province in 2006 and then ventured to Tasmania to pursue his tertiary education in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science. 

During his 4-year study in Tasmania he started a restaurant with his friends bringing authentic Chinese food to the Launceston community, and their story was featured twice in the local newspaper. He became an Australian citizen in 2011 before moving up and spending the next 5 years in the Gold Coast to obtain his qualification in dentistry from Griffith University in 2017.

Ricky moved to Brisbane after graduation from dentistry and has spent the last few years in a variety of private clinics in the greater Brisbane region as a general dentist. He has actively attended continuing education in every aspect of general dentistry post-graduation to hone his skills and keep up with the latest developments in the dental world. 

After working extensively with dentally-anxious patients in the past, Ricky has developed a good understanding of how to alleviate their anxiety and fear. As a naturally calm and logical person, he is dedicated to using his gentle chairside manner and meticulous clinical approach to create a positive and comfortable experience for his patients.

Ricky and his wife Jen were married in 2021, after three failed attempts at a wedding in the midst of COVID-19 restrictions. They decided to put roots down in Brisbane and started building their family home in the south side in 2023. While life is extra busy as they learn the ropes as new parents of their son Aston, they are also excited to welcome Ricky’s parents Australia. 

Apart from spending most of his spare time with the family and their golden retriever Nuggy, Ricky can be found going out for a relaxing cruise on his motorbike or keeping fit in the gym. He has also been an avid scuba diver and hiker since moving to Australia.
