Dr Craig Duval
Craig Duval was born in Durban, South Africa and his family immigrated to Melbourne in 1981 before settling in Brisbane in 1983. He attended high school at Marist College Ashgrove, before graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science in 1994.
Dr Craig Duval had roles as an Assistant Dentist in a couple of Brisbane private practices before he and his wife Katrina had a working holiday in England in 1997 and 1998. On returning to Australia in 1999, Dr Craig Duval helped establish a new practice in Jimboomba on the southern outskirts of Brisbane.
In 2000, Craig established Calamvale Dental Centre. After an extension of the practice in 2005, he successfully rebranded the practice to Designer Dental Studio, where he practiced as the owner and principal dentist until 2010. After several locum roles based at Kenmore, Wickham Terrace and Central Queensland, Craig joined St Lucia Dental in August 2011.
In 2012, Craig was recognised as a Platinum Invisalign Provider, which is usually only achieved by a select few orthodontists.
In August 2013 Craig purchased Sherwood Forest Dental from Dr George Coumbis and now is continuing to grow the practice as Sherwood Dental.
Craig is committed to the highest standards of care for his patients through actively participating in professional development. Since 2003, Craig has attended over 200 hours of continuing education every year. This has involved many courses in Brisbane, interstate and overseas. Craig is one of the few Australian recipients on the Presidents Honour Role of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, which he received in 2007. Craig was the first Australian awarded the prestigious LVI Rising Star Award for Outstanding Commitment to Education in August 2007. Craig was awarded a Fellowship from the prestigious Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies in 2008.
He is currently a member of the Australian Society of Endodontics, Australian Prosthodontic Society and Australian Dental Association. Most weeks he can be found attending lectures in Brisbane or interstate.
Craig and Katrina have 4 wonderful kids: Connor, Benjamin, Brianna and Jacob. Many weekends revolve around the kids’ activities, parties and being part of the fellowship at Riverlife Baptist Church. Craig is a Brisbane Lions fan, but enjoys all sports. He’s a huge Lego fan, and loves Marvel movies!
Xuru (pronounced ‘sha-roo’) is our dual–qualified Oral Health Therapist with Adult Scope, who can provide preventive and restorative dental treatment to patients of all ages.
Xuru graduated from the University of Newcastle Bachelor of Oral Health program in 2013. She’s been practising as a Dental Hygienist, working closely with various general dentists and dental specialists in Sydney and on the NSW Central Coast. Prior to completing her Bachelor of Oral Health degree, Xuru was an experienced dental assistant with extensive knowledge in the industry.
Xuru is extremely passionate about providing quality dentistry, and so went back to the University of Newcastle in 2016 to further advance her studies in Oral Health Therapy to include restorative dentistry. This enables Xuru to provide not only preventive dental treatment but also advanced treatment such as fillings on all patients, including adults.
Xuru relocated to sunny Brisbane in 2018 with her husband and their three children, to devote her passion and love for dentistry to our patients in and around Sherwood. Xuru’s passion for her work shines through her smile and uplifting energy every time you see her. As Xuru suffered severe dental fear during her childhood, she is a very gentle and compassionate practitioner, especially for young children and patients with dental anxiety. She vows to create a positive experience for every patient, every visit.
Aside from being a workaholic and a mother of three, Xuru is also a fitness fanatic who enjoys her daily workout, karate and kitesurfing. We’re impressed at how she manages to fit all this into her busy schedule!
