Conceal imperfections with

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding, also known as composite bonding, is often used to repair cracked, chipped and discoloured front teeth. It’s a more affordable cosmetic option. Dental bonding can also be used to reshape misaligned teeth, and sometimes close gaps between front teeth. This creates a straighter, more even smile. This can be a more conservative cosmetic solution, with only minor alteration to the tooth enamel. Dental bonding gives immediate results, that look and feel natural.

The bonding procedure at Sherwood Dental

You may or may not require anaesthetic to receive dental bonding; depending on the condition of your tooth and your level of comfort we will discuss whether or not to use any anaesthetics. The tooth will first be isolated from the rest of your teeth to keep the tooth dry because saliva can compromise the bond of the composite. We will then clean the tooth from any food or bacteria and roughen the surface of the tooth to prepare it for the bonding treatment.

A bonding agent will then be applied to the roughened surface and set using an ultraviolet light. The composite will then be applied in layers and set at each stage using the ultraviolet light until the desired shape is achieved.

We will ensure that your bonding is colour matched to your teeth to make sure your teeth still blend with each other.

The final stage will involve polishing the restoration to achieve the desired shape and look – It is our goal at Sherwood Dental to achieve a natural smile for your teeth. With dental bonding we can achieve a more natural look that will blend with the rest of your smile.

It generally takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour to complete the dental bonding procedure. If you’re having more than one tooth done, you may be required to visit our dental practice for more treatments.

What are the benefits of dental bonding?

The biggest benefit is the simplicity of the treatment, with little preparation and the ability to complete the treatment in just one treatment this can be a quick and simple solution for your small imperfections. The tooth coloured resin material used to bind the tooth will blend seamlessly with the rest of your smile so that no one will even notice you have had dental work at all! Generally we prescribe dental bonding for small imperfections, however if you are considering dental bonding we recommend visiting our Sherwood Dental to have your smile evaluated.  During your consultation we may advise bonding in accordance with another treatment to achieve the best results.
