Invisalign Dentist in Brisbane

The benefits of Invisalign include:

"Invisalign can be a great way to straighten your smile discreetly. The aligners are invisible and removable, which makes this treatment suitable for a variety of our patients."
Dr Craig Duval - Invisalign Dentist

Invisalign is widely considered the modern way to get the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted — without the need for braces.

As an Invisalign dentist in Sherwood, Brisbane, we treat patients from Indooroopilly, Graceville, Chelmer and Oxley who are wishing to achieve a straighter smile. Not only can you avoid wearing metal braces but the clear plastic aligners fit discreetly over your teeth for a virtually invisible orthodontic solution.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that your friends will not even know you’re wearing. This means, you can smile more during treatment and definitely after. The Invisalign aligners are made with 3-D computer imaging technology and have been proven to be highly effective and accurate, especially for adults. The clear aligners are beneficial for the following reasons:

  1. They are virtually invisible- no one will know you’re undergoing treatment
  2. They are smooth plastic- you can avoid sores and discomfort associated with metal braces
  3. They are removable- you can remove your aligners during meal time and to clean your teeth

Why Invisalign?

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are also removable, which means you can eat and drink what you want while undergoing treatment. Also, brushing and flossing are not affected during this treatment, as you can remove your aligners while you clean your teeth.

The aligners are comfortable, with no brackets and wires to fend with during treatment. With innovative 3-D technology to view your own virtual treatment plan,  you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

How does Invisalign work?

You wear each set of aligners for approximately 2 weeks (depending on your progression), removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move until they have straightened to the position we have prescribed. You will visit Sherwood Dental every 6-8 weeks, to ensure your treatment is going as planned. Total treatment time can be anywhere from 12 to 24 months.

Invisalign FAQs

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost of Invisalign will be dependent on your individual needs. Everyone’s teeth are different, as are their goals for the perfect smile. However, your first consultation with Dr Craig Duval at Sherwood Dental is free, so you can have all your questions answered and receive a detailed quote to cover the entire treatment schedule. This plan will include any dental work that needs to be done before treatment, a 3D scan of your mouth to create the moulds and project a simulation of what you want your teeth to look like, new Invisalign trays every two weeks and regular visits with your dentist to check your progress.

Will Invisalign affect the way I speak?

It is very unlikely that Invisalign will affect the way you speak. The trays are made of a very thin plastic meaning they’re not only very hard to see, but they will also have a minimal impact on your speech. When you first start wearing your Invisalign trays you may experience a slight lisp. However, as you get used to wearing the tray your tongue will adapt and the lisp should disappear. If you find that a small lisp doesn’t disappear on its own, you can take some time each day to practice the words which are causing you difficulty and overcome any effects on your speech.

How long does it take to straighten your teeth with Invisalign?

In most cases, you will undergo Invisalign treatment for 12 to 18 months to achieve a straight smile. The timeline of your treatment plan is very dependent on your individual situation and how much correction your teeth need. For example, you could achieve your desired results in as little as six months, or you may need treatment for up to two years. However, that doesn’t mean you need to wait to see results. You will receive a new tray every two weeks. Each tray will be slightly different, and your teeth will start adjusting as soon as you start treatment.

How painful is Invisalign?

The entire time you are wearing your Invisalign trays your teeth are moving and adjusting. Therefore, it is likely you will feel slight discomfort when you first start the treatments. However, as you get used to wearing the trays, and the feeling of your teeth adjusting to each new tray the discomfort will lessen. Invisalign is not a painful procedure, so if you experience pain during treatment you should speak to your dentist right away. You can also remove your Invisalign trays when you eat, floss and brush your teeth to avoid food being painfully caught as it can be in traditional braces.

Are traditional braces faster than Invisalign?

In some cases, you can see faster results from traditional braces than from Invisalign. Invisalign is designed as a progressive and non-invasive treatment that works gradually to realign your teeth. Traditional braces use rigid metal arches and anchors to powerfully pull teeth into alignment. If time is a factor for you, ask Dr Craig Duval about the best option for you during your free consultation.

Can Invisalign straighten very crooked teeth?

There are some rare cases of very crooked teeth which can only be corrected with traditional braces. However, in most cases, Invisalign is suitable for any crooked teeth, an overbite, an underbite, a crossbite, gap teeth and crowded teeth.

Is Invisalign covered by dental insurance?

Part of the cost of your Invisalign treatment should be covered by your private health insurance. This will depend on the level of cover and extras you have on your policy. You will need to check with your insurer about their coverage amounts and whether you need to serve any waiting periods.

Can you get Invisalign with an implant or root canal?

You will not be able to move dental implants by using Invisalign trays. Therefore, if you need implants it is best to consult with your dentist before you start Invisalign treatment. However, if you already have implants don’t worry as you may still be able to use Invisalign to straighten the rest of your teeth. If you have had a root canal or are in the process you can also still use Invisalign.
